Love (sonnet) (IK)
Post
by things_i_wrote » August 27th, 2014, 8:53 pm
hey guys it's been a pleasure to be part of IK and to read all your work
and to see all your lovely poem and share things with you ..so first i want to thank you all for making this happen and for letting me be part of it and supporting me ......and here is my forms sonnet but i'm no familiar too much with sonnet so i hope you like it but i think i did good
Love
shall i see thy hidden passion and love
or hark thy words and mark it with my ink
shall i pick off and send a bloom with doves
or dost i wait hither ..and stay on the brink
whence I came or i go without thine guide
thou art so pretty and indeed not vain
though lovely trees compare not with thy side
mine love for thee..untold ..i can't explain
but i fain dare to hold and kiss thy face
and add my love to thine ..as i hold thee
prithee to our god to pour us his grace
so long thou share and give thy love to me
thou and i shalt live our awesome love life
attach mine heart with thine,,keep thee my wife
thank you all again ..cheers @IKRunners2014 !

Although this is written in archaic language the sonnet promotes love as an eternal and never-ageing emotion, the tone here is both gentle and tender and your rhymes are spot on! Well done on completing the IK challenge, the month has been awesome mx

Kudos on tackling an unfamiliar form, the sonnet is a tricky little devil, but I sense that before tackling it you checked out some of Shakespeare's work? Your work evokes memories of perhaps his most famous sonnet, number 18, and the theme of love is one which seems made for the sonnet form.
Congratulations on your poem, and on surviving IK, making such a consistent contribution through shared poetry, time and comments!

TiW - the first stanza blew me away, and I'm sure she'll be thrilled to receive this poem with the others. Keep them safe in a scrapbook or frame them maybe for the future. Marvelous artistry and also a sense of wonderment on display here; as it rightfully should be, cheers and congrats on Icky! - Dan

I am most impressed that you decided to tackle the sonnet to finish of your IK run. It seems fitting that you employed the traditional topic and style. This holds lovely sentiments that I am sure will melt the heart of the beloved. It was fun running alongside you through IK.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Very nice sonnet, TIW, l loved the archaic touch, brings back Shakespeare. And a wonderful love poem. Yes, the sonnet is a challenge, but well worth it when it sings. Loretta

Such a deep yearning for love on the "higher" plane, beautifully constructed
and expressed. Very nice.

I'm not sure what the IK Challenge is, but your poem seemed to come out of Shakespeare's mouth, maybe in a drunken reverie, I'm not sure. At any rate, it's easy to hear the plucking of a lute in the background, and, in spite of all the pretty language, feel the undercurrent of pure lust!
You had me from "...send a bloom with doves." Great image!

How on earth did I miss this one? It is difficult for me to deeply feel love poems, even my own usually feel distant and disconnected from me. But this was gorgeous and I must echo what was said, it blew me away from the first stanza. I mean, really it is lovely and striking in its outpour and flow. I didn't even notice the constraint of it being a sonnet, it felt so elegant and read so easily, it is a breath-taking piece of writing and a sonnet at that! The language feeds into the tenderness here, keeps it delicate and sweet. This is definitely a Spotlight piece, it was written for it. Lovely writing, TIW! Simply Gorgeous!

The one who isn't able to acknowledge his own self, will eventually fail.
