Open Letter to My Favorite Visitor

Post by linlin528 » May 11th, 2016, 10:30 pm

Lights extinguished, silence looms
A day yet passed where breaths escaped
to fill the void you left behind
The clock's ticks slow
and my mind and soul evanesce

***

Then the fog lifts and you appear:
I've never cried for Thantos more
than in that moment when my heart dissolved
from your acidic presence within range reach.
You had left when I pushed,
yet the trigger from the barrel
of a picture on my wall
has plummeted my sanity
into an abyss of painful remembrance
and you returned to serve these memories
on the blood-stained platter I handed you

So you're back, you're back, and I'm numb in my feet
The face I've scratched out is shining bright in front of me
Chills from ghosts past
slither through my veins
I can't run from my worst nightmare
I collapse at his grasp
and I fall to reality

***

New lights, new silence, newly carved void
to capture your absence and late night visit
but I celebrate the conquest of another day passed
of a tall spine and strong heart
that stays alive despite your gut-wrenching affliction

The flying embers liquidate your frozen smile
into a frenzy of caustic glory
But that image seared into my mind,
that taunting demon tainting my brain,
casting a shadow of hatred and wrath,
will never escape the gallows of pride
hidden deep in the corner of respect and mercy;
that is, until, you gather the strength
to return to me, face to face,
instead of cowarding behind your ropes
twisted around my heart and knees.
I wish you gain the moral capacity
to seek and accept your devilin' ways
Until then, I'll cast you away when time slows
and hope the night's not too dark for a peaceful sleep

Sincerely,

a.l.

A spooky and unwelcome, if familiar, night visitor that brings it all rushing back again. The presence is palpable here and seems almost ghostlike with the burden of memories and perhaps even shame. The evil influence to haunt and taunt can be difficult to throw off, even though sleep beckons. It can be relentless as it seeks entry again to work more mischief. Cheers Lin for this stark personification of controlled terror. Cheers! - Dan

Yikes, this poem gave me chills, I loved the way you pulled the reader in with a brilliantly descriptive tale and took them down the twisty feeling of fear. Well written and cool OM thanks for sharing

"So you're back, you're back, and I'm numb in my feet
The face I've scratched out is shining bright in front of me"
Really wicked lines throughout this. I agree this OM is cool and sleek, and creates an atmosphere of anxiety and the type of chill across the neck that causes goosebumps down the arms. Haunting-like, suspenseful and beautiful rendition.
