My mum's wonderland

Post by mischa » May 29th, 2012, 12:29 pm

Since the time when i was a little girl
till now that i've grown up
my mother tells me stories
of a land across border
oh how sweet are those stories
just as sweet as the smile on the face of its teller

she goes on to define the beauty of that land
where she spent her childhood, which was oh so grand
I do not mean luxury when i speak of grand
as the memories of childhood are the greatest treasure to man
she can still in her breathe feel the scent of those grains of sand

she still misses making sand castles on a sunny day by the sea
and reading fairytales under the shade of an old neem tree
catching the butterflies that fluttered by...i think it was mean,
sucking nectar from the flowers and humming like a bee
the kulfi as she tells was served on the banana tree leaves
so tasteful was its flavor, you will just not believe

the youngest, most beloved one of everyone at home
she talks of those times so joyfully like a princess who lost her throne
Weekends' visit from uncle with a bag of chocolates for her to own
sharing them she hated so she ate them all alone
licking colored snow cones as the winter's sun shone
short trip to the theater with friends just for fun

when she was younger, she says that the barbies weren't there
so she made dolls out of fabric with noodle like woolen hair
but my friend just don't think that the story will end here
her dolly would be homeless, she thought was so unfair
cardboard houses with cut out windows she'd then prepare
with all the comforts and a lil lamp lit inside
after 12 she 'd wonder if the doll might come to life

Everytime when rain falls another list of memories it makes her recall
like going to school wearing boots and trendy raincoats
holding colorful umbrella, making them paper boats
and watching them sink and while they were afloat
the amazing sight of the rainbow,
when clouds had drained and the rain had poured

Countryside vacation, she spent all her day at play
enjoying lovely green grass and the smell of freshly cut hay
no worries, no tensions and no problems crossed her way

The poem will go on too long if i give you all detail,
my wish is to take her to her wonderland which is very far away
to help her catch a glimpse of childhood that she lived many years from today !

*kulfi : a special kind of ice cream of Indian origin !

We all cling to childhood memories which are usually much better than our adult ones-when life was so much simpler. When you end up somewhere far different though it can mean longing for a culture you miss so very much.

To see your mother's memories as if you were along by her side - there is no sweeter, softer, sharing of souls than this write. In our stories, in our past, so lies our amazing futures. Very, very nice, enjoyable write, P.

i like your way of narrating and this is my favorite part :

she still misses making sand castles on a sunny day by the sea
and reading fairytales under the shade of an old neem tree
catching the butterflies that fluttered by...i think it was mean,
sucking nectar from the flowers and humming like a bee
the kulfi as she tells was served on the banana tree leaves
so tasteful was its flavor, you will just not believe

intense imaginary here and you do have a pretty awesome rhyming in this poem

cheers..TIW
