The Meaning of Life

Post by The Snoitart » October 8th, 2018, 5:51 pm

From what we've seen
In the universe so far,
There's about a trillion galaxies
Each with a trillion stars
That all likely have at least one planet.

Yet in all the vast cosmos,
We haven't met anyone else.

You could look at it in the way
That makes us all look a bit like gods,
The pinnacle of complexity in the universe
And you wouldn't necessarily be wrong.

But keep in mind that, even after
1.5 million years or so
We're still basically just Really Clever (nuclear-capable)
Monkeys.

Don't take it personally. But the hardware
Hasn't changed all that much since
The first Really Clever Monkey
Painted something in a cave.

Despite the fact that in the last
1.5 million years or so
Our bodies and brains haven't changed much at all
We've managed to accomplish the following:

-language
-civilization
-nuclear bombs
-instant mashed potatoes
-moon landings
-INTERNET
-war
-war
-war
-Pabst Blue Ribbon
-dogs
- penicillin
-war
-satallites
-smallpox vaccine
-smallpox resurgences (thanks anti-vaxxers)
-the lightbulb
-teddy bears
-toilet paper
-etc. Etc.

So don't get mad or upset that
I called you a monkey. I also called you
Really Clever. So maybe, go and, iunno
Do SOMETHING with it?

Quirky and entertaining throughout. Original and most enjoyable. Well done on the spotlight.

I enjoyed the poem, we haven't really evolved that much, more than capable of it, but it takes work, effort and a belief in beyond our navels. good write
