ADMIN NOTE: The first half of this thread was lost in the 'crash of '12'...the author of the poem that was spotlighted re-posted the original in the comments below...we kept the older comments so they wouldn't be lost with the orig. - staff

Well said my friend, a truth we all face, and sometimes find a way to bury for a time. Thank you for sharing!

Incredibly moving and also an indictment on the actions of politicians and office bound warlords.
I can also understand why faith and truth seem very far apart in these situations.
Congratulations on a well deserved Spotlight.

Hi Scottguy,

Your poem's sentiments bring to mind the work of WW1's war poets; those luminaries such as Rupert Brooke, Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon et al - their prevailing tone often being a sardonic Dulce Et Decorum Est, and that manner of thing.

Thanks for the read.

Go well.

Congrats on the "Spotlight" Scottguy. Well deserved. I have heard of the term
PTSD for years, you transformed it from a textbook term to real flesh and blood.
Very well done.

Hello,

These lines really stood out for me:

Exhausted, my soul distraught
I flip through the worn pages
of a cracked leather bible
reading the words of a god
I don't believe I belive in.

There are many sources of PTSD. I was recently diagnosed with it. Mine came from an abused childhood. But I can strongly relate to this brilliant poem. I hope to read more of your work. Best wishes to you.

always, Cat

I can't help but notice that the poem is no longer a part of this thread. I apologize for my long absence. I hope to not take such a long hiatus again. I am still very grateful for the honor you bestowed upon me by voting this into the Hall of Fame! Thank you.

PTSD

Post by scottguy » April 20th, 2014, 10:03 pm

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL

Exhausted, my soul distraught
I flip through the worn pages
of a cracked leather bible
reading the words of a god
I don't believe I belive in.

I shake loose a layer of dust from my uniform
only to have it immediatly replaced.
sweat stained clothes
covering dirt stained skin
hiding war stained innocence

Conference table strategies
Written by the wealthy and old
Gamble the lives
Of the young and the poor

And somewhere in the distance
A bomb explodes
