Emperor Passing

Post by Lonnie » July 16th, 2015, 8:01 pm

Emperor Passing

Wings of dark enwrap my pain
I weep within their care
as star winds sing an ancient lullaby
outside there is soothing rain
that falls from who knows where
freshening an oriental sky

dark sea mirrors darker moon
more timeless than benign
washing realms of elfin majesty
eldritch stones emblazed with rune
and wreathed in columbine
offer up their solemn mystery

oft told tales of hero kings
still echo in the night
sung by voices many ages dead
I sorrow for the loss of things
that once were just and right
and now are only dreams within my head

the world grows young as I grow old
anticipating death
impatient for the final bell to toll
I am but meek who once was bold
with fire belching breath
a dragon with an accidental soul

So much overall beauty is encompassed here, welcoming a combination of the Elvin faerie tales as well as that of the Far East, cool ideas !

This is absolutely stunning. I've never seen the ABCABC rhyme scheme before, which is surprising, since it works great - rhyming without being sing-songy and connecting later lines to earlier ones. It is also kind of mythologically ambiguous, which is cool. Nice dreamlike quality.
