Early Sonoran Desert Morning

Post by mikecaalaska » April 14th, 2015, 9:16 am

Droning noise of traffic now gone
Utter silence filling the desert air
It is 5 AM with a starry sky
Natures neon lights flicker brightly
Crescent moon moving slowly overhead.

In the courtyard the fireplace glows
Yellow, orange and blue glowing flames
Dancing gently with the morning breeze
Cactus at rest with eyes closed
Eyes to soon open with yellow flowers- meet the morning light.

Nature slowly pulls her shroud over the stars
Sky now turning to a bluish grey
Silhouettes of palo verde dance with the soft breeze
Branches traveling back and forth - adventuring
Deeply rooted into the ground, Your trunk stands firm.

Blue grey sky slowly absorbed with reds and oranges
Dawn now creates a morning sky.
Palo verde branches in full yellow bloom - dance on
Morning soft sounds now drift through the air
Gambel’s quail , cactus wren and the sound of a train miles away.

6 AM - sun slowly rises over the mountains to the East
Morning silhouettes now venturing away
Crescent moon moved on - back again tomorrow
Plants now putting on their day face
Colors, sounds and a breeze return- a Sonoran desert morning.

The sun is in our heart,
the moon is in our soul,
each day may change,
am just hoping to be here, for awhile,
for each sunrise and sunset.

Beautifully done, Mike;
as you know, I'm an early riser and enjoy the desert outdoors at this time of the day. Unfortunately, this spring brought loads of pollen like never before. Antihistamines have become the numero uno seller at Walmart and pharmacies. Enjoyed your excellent lines throughout a well-written pastoral poem. Enjoyed,

Thanks Jerry. I am south of Tucson for a couple of days away the coachella valley. I can understand the pollen well. Here everything in bloom - the ride over yesterday was creosote, palo verde and other desert plants in full bloom - a lot in the air.

This is just so wonderful and it brought back to me lovely memories of living in the desert outside of Phoenix. I lived in a tipi and I would wake up and watch the sun rise and it was breathtaking! Really enjoyed this!

You paint a wonderful word picture of an early morning on the desert. I felt I was with you as the day came on.

Many thanks Tangie and all - enjoy my desert writings. A unique place during any part of the year. winters with an occasional rain fall - the scent in the air, summers - dry and hot yet life lives on - ahh the movement of night creatures. Thanks again.

This poem felt almost like a silent documentary, I could totally picture the scenery in my mind. Peaceful and contemplative.

May thanks Bear, there is a time for peace to be there - too many days of noose and the world surrounding us.
