The South Side Of Chicago

Post by damaso » May 1st, 2014, 10:43 am

this is a short story written about a fourteen year old girl who was murdered on monday in my City, by another 14 year old, over an argument about a boy they had on facebook.

It was an afternoon. It was normal veils of clean white-gray overcasts from an April that refused to rain, or snow. It was a sunless purgatory hanging the heavens and the day, as it were, in an impregnable slab from which fall translucent silvery ashes of light. Their mute illuminations cast the Bungalows, the faded enamel white sidings and mauve roofs—the sidewalks, their sequined dilapidations, of wounded grass bruising its green in the muddled lacerations of demolished Greystones, and their ghostly absence crouched in between—the streets, listlessly wincing, dirty, and ripped— a girl darts across Garfield, returning with a gun and teenage boys and two twenty-something year olds.
She, at John Hope College Prep High School, was on the Honor Roll—played freshman basketball—and was even in her school’s freshman leadership group.
She swings her hand into the air, pointing at the group of girls on the porch; but the gun jams. It malfunctioned; the paths, to murder.
So she turns her shoulder, to her left; and hands it to one of the boys crowded around her. He clears the chamber—well and good—and in that moment, remorseless, and with hideous punctuality; she flings back around--shooting madly into the helpless group of girls. The cackles of bullets being fired fills neighborhood and sky with the profanity of its exclamation; fumbling in cacophonous arrests of flesh, of mortality, as she still expulses round after round into the directions of those yet fallen, and still running. Running, and running, gasping with the horror of Death stealing space closer now with every scratching curl, scathing through the gauze of wind to reach them; an instantaneous touch of its finger, sent to fetch their soul, deliver the last tepid exhales of dying breaths, and immortality; Running, Running, Running from the Death that is summoning them fourth.

Wow, a beautifully written. And sad. So very very sad. Such an unfortunate reality we face. Great write.

Wow, this is really good! the fluency of descriptive prose alone is commendable, but the plot as well! this is such tragic thing to happen! and the fact that its based on true events is even more shocking. This is truly a harrowing story.

Just wondering if this is a real happening or just a story. The description of the day the the neighborhood is outstanding. There's just so much senseless killings these days.
