A Forest Stands

A Forest Stands

A forest grows and softly stands, amongst the now forgotten lands,
that once held fame and brilliant glory, told by lamplight was the story.
Knights in armor, maidens fair, dragons breath to singe the air,
casting spells upon the mist, living out the spirits bliss.

Timeless was the age of man, before our history began,
before our bards and poets wrote, before our music had a note,
before our ships had filled their sails, before the faeries told their tales.
When man was still a mist in time, when man was still a mist in time...

When man first grew upon the earth, we didn't question Gaia's worth.
We lived upon her golden shores and danced at night upon her moors.
Their was no question what we ate - the quest was life and thus our fate.
A life so simple and so sure, another thought would seem obscure.

We went about our daily task, our suffering a daily mask.
We built our fires out of wood, we felt the heat and it was good.
We lived as one with all her beasts, killing what we planned to eat.
We loved her greatly, in our youth, she spoke of love - she spoke of truth.

T'was then an evil came upon us - bright and shiny seemed the promise.
Castles built upon the moors, towers bright upon her shores.
Within us all the greed awoke, with silver tongue it brightly spoke,
of gold and riches - fortune - fame - it knew not love, it knew not shame.

Lost and lonely came the night - the bitter flame of greed ignites.
It burned away the spirits touch, the one we often need so much.
The gentle love of mother earth, the canticle for every verse.
The gifts she gave would now be hoarded - silver streams with steel forded.

Now we sit in all our glory, earth as spirit, just a story,
told again by those who share, the spirit that is still aware.
We pass it on, so more will know, the spirits' touch - the Mothers' glow.
A treasure earned - yet given free, her forests fair, her ancient trees.

Bright with promise comes the day, when man begins another way.
Leaving not the forests shriven, wasting not what she has given,
living brightly with her spirit - above, below, within and near it.
Passing on her ancient trees, while they pass on the air we breath.

Such a tale of hope, birch!!!!!!!
Epic, truly epic!

Thanks so much for reading, QA, and for taking your time with my work. I bow deeply to the two snaps! Thank You!
Hope for this island earth is what I give and feel daily, as we spin through the cosmos. It is a great joy to me when this message of hope is conveyed to others through my writing.

Robert Frost was on my mind with 'Something there is...' and I found myself saying, 'Something there is that loves a tree' after I read your calming, soothing poem. I liked the way you used internal rhyme and gently guided this reader through time.. It was a long poem, but the narrative moved at a safe clip. It was as though you cleared a passage of debris and made clarity of images your goal.

Really cool :D

I usually don't go for "longer" poems but when I noticed the internal rhyme, the rhythm, and some of the repetition of words/ideas, I really loved it.

Also very relatable environmentalist theme of deforestation.

So much of our beautiful world has been lost under the subordination conjunction of nature and greed, short term gains vs. long term effects painted in a bitter-sweet picture of your words of rhyme setting the stage of the changes of time.
Congratulations on a spotlight well deserved. - Falstaff
